Greetings
Small is Strong & Beautiful !
It is a pleasure for me to have this opportunity to extend my heart-felt appreciations to Korean medium and small shipbuilders' clients, partners and stakeholders throughout the world.
Presently, medium and small-sized shipyards worldwide are still struggling hard with sluggish orders receipt, while major Korean shipbuilders have been making remarkable progress since 2018. However, we should not give up. Instead, we should pool our wisdom, experiences and insight to rethink, redesign and rebuild the industry, anchoring the in-the-same-boat spirit.
Small Shipyards' Value Chain, Leveraging People's Better Living Standards
Small shipyards are playing a pivotal role in sea transportation domestically linking land and islet, which are closely connected with the matters of people's conveniences and safety. Moreover, the industry advancement is creating job opportunities, which emerges as top policy agenda of Korea and beyond.
A Heart of Korea's New Southern and Northern Policies
Small shipbuilding is shaping up as a promising area, stemming from New Southern Policy, a newly established diplomatic efforts of Korea under President Moon Jae-in Administration. As there are so many islands in South East Asia, they need a lot of small vessels transportation service. Meanwhile, Russia, an axis for new Northern Policy as well as New Economic Map of Korean Peninsula, is also in need of cooperation and collaboration in the area of small and medium shipbuilding.
Furthermore, north Korea needs modernized fishing vessels, which could be effectively supplied by south Korea for mutual benefits and prosperity.
Domestic & Global Networks to Enhance Connectivity and Opportunities
KOSIC is making efforts to establish domestic and global networks to effectively carry out global projects to invigorate our industry. In this context, we are poised to deliver a set of innovative proposals to the government as well as seeking cooperation and collaboration with related organizations, research institutes and others. Furthermore, KOSIC is expanding global networks, connecting Korean small shipyards with their prospective foreign partners.
Lastly, wishing you good health and good fortune, I solicit your continued patronage and support of KOSIC initiative to build win-win partnerships.
Faithfully yours,
Sung Tae KIM
Chairman
